The tragic end of Angelo Reyes brought more questions than answers. For some news commentary, his death was the only way
out that affords him his honor intact. For others, his suicide was a way out of a coward man, unable to escape the undeniable judgment he went his way and ended everything with his life.
It’s unfortunate we lost honorable men like him and it’s also depressing that people with such dignity succumb to ending their own lives if challenged with problems and accusations. With such actions, people will never doubt his innocence because of such an act of escapism. This act, for some, is not honorable but a sign of guilt. His death is just a saving face for his family and the institution he vows to protect.
The nation is grieving that one of his sons ended his life with such a passion. Death should be seen as a termination of life not because we willed it to be but rather it is a consummation of lived-life, it’s purpose might be revealed or not to the person but ending one’s life by choice offers no explanation but an escapism to the world that tries to persecute or humiliate. The lesson here I suppose is to honor life, protect it and despite insurmountable problem or crisis we may face, hope will always see us free at the end of everything else.
My condolences to the bereaved family of the late Angelo Reyes.
